Criminal Justice Minor Requirements

The criminal justice minor requires completion of 18 specified credits.

  • Three compulsory courses: Politics of Crime & Justice (POLS 3827 [255]); Criminology (SOCI 2301 [216]); and Abnormal Psychology (PSYC 2300 [245]);
  • An internship in a criminal justice setting; and
  • At least two further relevant courses from an approved list available in the Undergraduate Course Catalog.

A maximum of three credits in the minor can count towards a major, and 12 to 15 credits can constitute the related area courses.

A minimum of a C must be earned in each of the courses to earn the minor.

Further details are summarized in the University's Undergraduate Course catalog. Please note that the Criminal Justice minor was updated in Spring 2008, after the printing of the 2008-09 catalog. Please be sure to consult the 2009-10 catalog for an up-to-date description of the Criminal Justice minor requirements.

If in doubt whether you will meet the requirements of the minor, arrange a time to talk with an advisor.

A final plan of study for the minor must be submitted to the IISP Office within the first four weeks of your final semester. If you are a POLS, PSYC, SOCI, or URBN major, you must have one of the CJM advisors sign your plan of study.

Please note: There are other courses on campus that might be interesting to a student following a criminal justice minor plan of study.
