Interdisciplinary Studies at UConn: Environmental Studies

The listing below provides links to many of the undergraduate interdisciplinary offerings at the University of Connecticut . This is not an exhaustive list. Much interdisciplinary work goes on within departments, whether in the form of concentrations within a major or minor, or within particular courses.

  • Coastal Studies
    The Coastal Studies major combines marine science and social science. It is offered by the Marine Sciences Department at UConn's Avery Point campus.

  • Environmental Science
    The Environmental Science program is a joint program of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It offers a major in Environmental Science with concentrations in: Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Geography, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Health, Marine Science, Natural Resources, Resource Economics and Soil Science.

  • Environmental Studies
    Offers a minor for students interested in social science and/or policy approaches to solving environmental problems.

  • Center for Integrative Geoscience
    The Center promotes transdisciplinary instruction and research to advance understanding of the interaction of biological, chemical, geological, and physical processes, including feedback mechanisms, at all spatial and temporal scales. Of central concern are the processes that have shaped the Earth through geologic time, continue to shape the environment today, and which provide the basis for understanding the present and future impact of human activity on the planet. The Center offers a major and a minor.

  • Maritime Studies
    The Maritime Studies program, based at the Avery Point campus, embraces the liberal arts as the foundation for exploring humankind's critical and continually evolving connections with the world's waterways and watersheds.

  • Natural Resources and the Environment
    This Department based in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers a major with concentrations in Air and Water Resources, Environmental Conservation, Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation, Forest Resources, and Geomatics.
